With a Pashtoon-Croatian heritage, born and raised in Karachi, Pakistan, Wali moved to Germany at the age of 14. After graduating with a Master’s degree in 2012 from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium, he founded the namesake label Wali Mohammed Barrech in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2013 designing apparel and accessories.
Now in Antwerp, the label is continued with focus on accessories, launching FRAMESERIES OI, his first handbag collection in 2017.
The WMB FRAMESERIES is a composition of memories, templates, intentions and references materialised in the form of handbags. The purpose of the collection is to present a series of engineered objects that are not only totemic and sculptural, but equally practical and functional.
FRAMESERIES OI consists of 7 handcrafted models available in 5 selected colourways. The WMB collection is subdivided in a range of shapes that are both exclusive and familiar.
Each FRAME BAG is labeled by its format and function:
S FRAME • M FRAME • C FRAME • L FRAME • TOTE • BRIEFCASE
Embedded in every design of the WMB collection is an effective contrast between an emphasis on traditional craftsmanship and the exploration of novel shapes. Each handbag results of a cross-pollination: a studied encounter between luxurious leathers and usually neglected technical materials such as foam and plastic.
Their purpose is to present products designed from the perspective of counter-obsolescence and exist as dynamic base for the future models WMB will develop over time.
